Mallika K, a web designer from BTM Layout, was full of curiosity as she walked through the stalls at the two-day Bangalore International Wine Festival 2010, which kickstarted at Palace Grounds on Saturday. She was not just feasting her eyes to the beautiful coloured bottles lined up, she was also learning about different types of wine.

“There are many national and international brands of wine in 40 stalls here. There is true variety under one roof; one can find a wide range of exotic wines,” she said. The aroma of wines filled the air at Palace Grounds, at this event organised by the Karnataka State Wine Board together with The Karnataka Tourism Department, to promote wine cultivation and consumption.

Among the 40 stalls, Season vineyards, Kinvah, Wine Baron, Aspri Spirits Naka Vineyards, Indus Vineyards, Nine Hills from Seagram and The Big Banyan are some of the big names.

Three categories of wines — sparkling wines, white wines and red wines — were displayed at every stall. Beautifully arranged bottles of wine, neatly-laid wine glasses, varieties of grapes hung and well dressed exhibitors were the essence of the event.

Minister for IT-BT Katta Subramanya Naidu inaugurated the event. “This is to showcase wines from all over the world, allow wine drinkers and novices to experience, understand the world of wine,” said Dr Krishna from the Karnataka Wine Board.
