Sweet surprise for Priyanka Chopra

Actress Priyanka Chopra, who attended the special screening of her film Barfi! at the 12th International Film Festival of Marrakech last month, was in for a sweet surprise! As the Bollywood beauty interacted with her fans at the red carpet event, she was extremely moved to learn that many of them had got her homemade barfi, while many others had arranged for it to be sent from India.

“It is not a local sweet, so Priyanka was very moved to see the lengths that her fans had gone for her. A lot of them had actually got the recipe online and prepared it specially for her at home,” reveals a source close to Priyanka. PC on her part went out of her way to meet and greet all her fans, who just didn’t seem to get enough of her. “Priyanka reportedly told them that the barfi has added more sweetness to her already sweet memories of the place,” adds the source.

But it’s not just in Marrakech, that the actor’s been treated to the Indian delicacy. Insiders reveal that ever since the actor’s film also starring Ranbir Kapoor released, people have loved her performance so much that they have been sending her boxes of barfi on every occasion. “No matter where she goes, she is being treated to the sweet and she very sportingly puts aside her diet concerns and indulges in the treats,” says the insider.

What’s even more interesting is that the boxes are all addressed to Jhilmil Chopra! “During Diwali, even though she wasn’t around, most of her fans had sent in boxes of barfi addressed to Jhilmil Chopra,” adds the insider.

The actress had garnered much appreciation from the fans and the industry alike for her role in the film. “Her performance in the film has been one of the high points for PC this year. And this has been acknowledged not only by Anurag, but also by several other filmmakers, moreso as it was not a author-backed role and was more of a Ranbir Kapoor film than Priyanka’s.

However, she has been able to stand on her own,” say trade analysts. Post her successful innings this year with Agneepath and Barfi!, and a hit international debut as a singer, the actress is now gearing for an equally busy 2013. And among the films in her kitty are Krissh 3, Zanjeer remake, Gunday and the Sanjay leela Bhansali biopic on Mary Kom.

“Priyanka’s year had begun on a hit note with Agneepath, and she is thrilled to end it on a sweet note with barfi,” shares the insider.
