Susan Boyle loses top US album spot to Kesha

Scottish singer Susan Boyle has been knocked off the top of the US album chart, after a six-week run at No 1, by newcomer American singer Kesha.

According to Neilsen SoundScan, 22-year-old Kesha's debut album, 'Animal', sold 152,000 copies compared with sales of 93,000 for 48-year-old Boyle's 'I Dreamed a Dream', reports the BBC.

About seventy six per cent of Animal's sales came from digital download stores.

It follows the success of Kesha's debut single Tik Tok, which broke download records for a female singer in the US.

The pop track sold 610,000 copies in the final week of December to become the second most downloaded track in the US last year, following Flo Rida's 'Right Round', also featuring Kesha. Animal is due to be released in the UK in April.
