Singer Sophie Choudry’s ‘golden’ home has dollops of opulence, splendour and luxury.

Super-stylish living for Sophie Choudry

Singer and VJ Sophie Choudry looks glamourous in a red short dress when she greets us in her super-stylish living room. The 2,850 sq ft home with an Oriental decor imparts a Zen-live feel which is instantly soothing as soon as you enter through the door.

One entire wall near the dining table is done up in gold leafing — a visual treat. Three ornate murals of Krishna dress up different spaces beautifully adding a traditional touch to the otherwise modern decor. Fawn sofas, plenty of silver, gold and diamante-studded cushions, exquisite Persian rugs, Italian marble flooring, crystal lamps and vases, sparkling silver artifacts and a bowl filled with mogras fill the living room with a delicate fragrance.

Strings of crystal glam up the Balinese day bed in the hall instead of the usual use of fabrics, making it look more spacious and open. Two exquisitely embroidered cushions featuring a Maharaja and Maharani sit pretty among a host of gold and silver ones. “My mum and her friend Anjali Kedia, who is passionate about doing up homes, actually got this set only because of me. They believe it will bring me luck in finding my life partner but that hasn’t yet worked,” says Sophie laughing.

Born and brought up in London, she graduated from the London School of Economics. “I was a total filmy baccha and grew up on a staple diet of 5,000 Hindi movies which were neatly shelved in my loft in London,” says the Bollywood siren.

So how did she finally zero in on this apartment in Khar? “When the broker showed me this flat, the carpenters were still doing some finishing touches and they had covered a wall with newsprint. I was on the front page of that newspaper on the wall! That did it, I told my mum we’re buying this flat right away!” she recalls, smiling.

Her bedroom has a strong oomph factor typical of a goddess who worships at the temple of beauty. The dresser has 10 huge light bulbs, so as to avert any possible make-up disasters due to poor light. A riveting transparent and fuchsia pink Italian chair adds a feminine charm. Her three feet deep cupboard painstakingly took five months to design, ensuring enough space for all her clothes, shoes, lingerie, denims etc.

“My home is opulent, luxurious and very feminine — a mirror image of the person I am,” she says summing up.
