Sridevi and Lizzy Priyadarshan join Celebrity Cricket League

If the country’s T20 cricket league has women team owners like Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty, Nita Ambani and Gayathri Reddy, the Celebrity Cricket League is going to be no less. After seeing Tamil cinema’s top actor of yesteryears, Radhika Sarath Kumar successfully see through the first edition as director of the tournament, actress Sridevi and Lizzy Priyadarshan will be the faces of teams next year.

No, we’re not talking about being brand ambassadors here. These two actors-turned-wives of film-makers will be fronting the responsibilities as co-owners of the two new teams that will join the league next year. Sridevi and husband Boney Kapoor will build the cricket team comprising of Bengali actors. While Lizzy and husband Priyadarshan will own the team comprising of Malayalam actors.

“In fact, both these ladies have evinced a lot of interest in the league. They were present for the matches. While Sridevi was at the final, Lizzy watched all the matches held in Chennai. They checked out the crowd and the vibes and were convinced about taking on their new role,” says an insider from CCL.

These two teams will be part of the second edition, which will be played in February next year. “Sridevi and husband Boney Kapoor will be fronting the team, which has stakes from Sahara. The channel saw great TRP during the screening of the matches,” says the insider. It isn’t yet clear as to who, apart from the Priyadarshans, is investing on the Malayalam team.

Considering the way the first edition kicked off, there was definitely a lot of big bucks spent on the team, on post match parties, team memorabilia and entertainment performances. The buzz is that there will be a lot more investors in this league. After all, there’s no business like show business.
