Special screening of '3 Idiots' for Dilip Kumar

He has been hearing conflicting reports about 3 Idiots and carefully following them. But given his health, Dilip Kumar just couldn’t get out of his home to watch it in the theatres. “For over two weeks, the veteran actor was expressing his wish to watch the film but his health was not permitting it. He gave up because he thought that he wouldn’t be able to watch the film because the film would be taken off most theatres next week,” says a source.

The word about Dilip Kumar’s wish reached Vidhu Vinod Chopra and he immediately ordered that a private screening be organised for the ailing yesteryear superstar and his wife Saira Bano at Ketnav theatre in Bandra. “He finally saw the film last week. He was really moved after seeing the film and felt nostalgic.

After watching the film, Dilip Kumar felt an urge to discuss about films with Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. All of them sat together on the terrace of Marina (Vidhu’s apartment in Bandra) to discuss about the film and its making,” the source added.

But Dilip Kumar ended up discussing much more than just the film. “He discussed filmmaking in general and his experience of working with veteran directors like Bimal Roy, K Asif for hours with me and Raju Hirani after the screening,” says Vidhu Vinod Chopra, adding, “it was such a touching moment. The best of my life. I couldn’t have wished for anything better than this. I couldn’t believe that Dilipsaheb was sitting in my home. The discussions went on for two hours!”
