Sonam Kapoor is a ' desi' girl

Sonam apparently packed bags full of designs by Indian designers to flaunt at social gatherings at her recent international fashion outings

Sonam Kapoor is a ' desi' girl

Sonam Kapoor is known for her sense of style, so much so that she’s probably the first Bollywood actor to be invited to various high profile international fashion events.

Though the fashionista has maintained that she is equally at ease being spotted in creations by desi and international designs, she apparently made sure that she sported enough desi designs during her recent fashion tour. “Sonam went to attend one show during the London Fashion Week and then to Paris for a few other shows. Of course, while the brands in question dressed her for their shows, but she wore creations by Indian designers for other social outings,” says a source in the know. “There were umpteen number of dinners and get togethers that she was invited to. Sonam took bags full of clothes by Indian designers and she made sure she flaunted them. She got a lot of compliments for her desi looks as well,” says the source. Sonam apparently wore creations by designers Abu Jani, Sandeep Khosla, Anamika Khann and Sheila Khan.

“She took a mix of Indian and western wear. There were saris with cutwork and chikan work along with some fusion wear by these designers,” informs the source. It may be recalled that though Sonam flaunted a foreign label at her first red carpet outing at the recent Cannes Film Festival, she also made it a point to wear a retro polka dot black and white, Masaba Gupta sari at an after party. “Sonam is not stuck up on brands at all. She goes with her instinct when it comes to picking outfits for her international outings. Even among Indian designers, she is not partial to the top ones, she wears creations by newbies too,” says the source.

Sonam herself had admitted in the past that she has no qualms wearing high-street brands. “For me, the design is of prime importance, not the label. I wear what suits me and makes me look good,” she had insisted.             l
