Slow but steady

Despite having less than 12 films on his resume, actor Samir Soni wants to take it easy.

Slow but steady

Many in the industry feel that he is one actor who arrived much before his time.

Born in Delhi, though Samir Soni received acclaim as an actor, he has gone without consistent successful blockbusters.

He had the looks, he can speak immaculately but Samir has been doing less than even one film a year. Samir burst on to the silver-screen in 1998 with China Gate and till date, he stands with just 12 films in his resume.

His last, the hit Karan Johar movie starring Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor, was certainly a high point in his career.

“I have always chosen quality over quantity. I did not get the movies that really excited me to go forward. I’m not really bothered by the number of movies I have done and the hits I have got. I just want to be a part of good films and a good team,” Samir tells us.

Ask him if he thinks he was ahead of his times and he humbly says, “I’m not my own judge but I can say that I have no grudges against the industry.

Movie-making is also a business at the end of the day and just because I love content doesn’t mean it’s the right formula. But yes, times have changed and we are making far more exciting movies.

I thank the young film-makers to bring about this chance.”

Despite offers lined up, Samir hasn’t signed a movie yet. “I’m sitting on a big bag of nothing,” he says, laughing. “I guess I have always been like this. Just because I have a hit now, I will not sign whatever films I can, even if they are bad films.

I as a person die a million deaths if I do bad work and I would not like to go through the pain caused by bad choices. I will wait till I find my kind of film,” he ends.
