Shamita’s new avatar

The model-turned-TV host talks on her volatile split with Bollywood actor Upen Patel.

Model Shamita Singha, recently in the limelight after splitting from actor-boyfriend Upen Patel, is taking on the mantle of a television anchor. Starting Monday, Shamita will be hosting a daily TV show, ‘Maximum Style’. 

“It’s am not doing just any show. My endeavour is to connect with the upmarket home-audiences. As part of the daily change agenda, I will be chatting with them about ever-fickle fashions, haute lifestyles, fitness, stunning looks, innovative interiors and even exotic night-spots to chill out in,” she says, citing her reasons for doing the show.

“I am totally involved with the show — scripting, deciding my designer, outfits and the overall packaging. It will have my style signature in each episode,”enthuses Shamita.

So how come she’s kept away from Bollywood? “It may sound weird but mainstream feature films have never fascinated me. Maybe if there is an exciting cross-over movie or a ‘item-dance’ kind of number in an impressive set-up, I’ll be game,” she shrugs  .

As far as her personal life goes, is she disillusioned with relationships after her break-up with Upen? “I have become seasoned enough, not to depend on a ‘love relationship’ as my anchor. What happened was really sad. Honestly, Upen and I tried very hard to make the relationship work and we gave it our best shot. Sometimes two mates are just not compatible, no matter whatever you do. I still think Upen shouldn’t have misbehaved that way and I believe he seems to have an anger management problem. But it was great while it lasted for about a year,” she signs off.
