Shakti Kapoor set for silver screen comeback with regional film

Bollywood actor Shakti Kapoor is making his comeback onto the silver screen with the Punjabi language film Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya (The Heart Has Turned Foreign).

Shooting for the film kicked off in Amritsar on Saturday.

While on set, Kapoor expressed his excitement about working in a Punjabi film as he himself comes from the state.

"It is a great thing, coming to Punjab and shooting. Second is speaking your own language. So, I am very happy to do a Punjabi film and I hope that whoever is watching this goes and watches my film," said Kapoor.

He added that it was always a great experience to visit Amritsar, home to the Golden Temple and a spiritual and cultural hub for Sikhs.

Directed by acclaimed Punjabi film director, Thakur Tapasvi, the film is an emotional drama based on the generations who have suffered the divide in families following the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947.

The star cast is an ensemble of Bollywood actors as well as movie stars from Pakistan.

Kapoor has been known for playing comic and villainous roles in Hindi films.

He had won a Filmfare Award, often referred to as the Oscars of Indian cinema, for his comedic role in the movie Raja Babu in 1995.
