Shahana Goswami wants to act in a comedy

Actress Shahana Goswami is currently away shooting for Deepa Mehta’s film Winds of Change in Sri Lanka, but she is tight lipped about the film. Prod her a bit more and Goswami will come up with the same response, “I can’t say anything about the film or my role, but I can tell you that I am very happy to be working with her.”

So instead, we wanted to know why we rarely get to see her on screen, is it the lack of good roles or she is being plain choosey? “It’s a bit of both. I allow my instincts to guide me and not fix parameters like playing the lead etc. I do films that I like when I read the script, where I like my character and her role in the larger scheme of the film. I just make sure I don’t get stuck being compartmentalised and keep trying to keep it fresh and new,” clears Shahana.

The actress believes that so far she has been on the right track as her journey in the Indian film industry has been quite enriching. She says, “The industry has also been very welcoming as have the audiences. I am still on the journey and still growing and have a lot more I want to do and learn. The risk we all run is reaching a plateau and that’s what I try and avoid. I am very happy with all the films I have done and how I have been received and want to stick to it.” But one thing Shahana has been waiting to do is work in a comedy. “I love comedies! I am dying to do a good comedy, but a good comedy is tough to come by. I will do one as soon as something great comes by,” offers Goswami.

With a lot of actors having realised their short shelf, are trying out various other avenues whether it is production or direction and Goswami too has some such plans, “I would love to direct some day but I am too young and inexperienced right now to do so, I would probably do it much later in my life but I definitely will,” says an affirmative Goswami who loves watching films. “I could just watch films back-to-back the whole day, any number of them,” she adds.
