Satya Hinduja is booked on music!

She’s is the lesser known of the Hindujas, having positioned herself as a behind-the-scenes person in Bollywood. But, make no mistake,
Satya Hinduja is as talented and dynamic as her illustrious family.
Yesterday, Ashok Hinduja’s younger daughter, the female voice of the hit film track Fashion Ka Jalwa, made her unique solo debut Staircase — an original piece of music she composed for good pal and author Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi’s second novel — The Lost Flamingoes of Bombay.

“As I work mainly on film scores, in this case I had to inhabit a completely different head space, that of a writer, and imagine what he would like for the scene. It was an exciting challenge,” says Satya.

Staircase sets to music a scene from the book, when Karan and Rhea (key characters of the book) make out for the first time. To capture this mood, she has set the piece with a serene, haunting piano motif that builds up as the drama kicks in. “To offset Rhea’s fear — she is a married woman having an affair with a younger man — I clubbed the groove with the sarangi, flute, and piano, to draw out the purity of their passion,” she adds.

On a completely different note, we ask how she got into playback singing? “I’ve been working with Salim-Sulaiman (renowned B-Town music composers) on several of their projects as a programmer and score engineer. I never planned on playback singing, but when Salim asked me to, I gave it a shot I was pleasantly surprised with the result,” she says.

There have been several other highpoints in her career too, including singing for one of the characters for the Disney production High School Musical. “My voice is also going to be featured for the title track of Luck, still under production, which is also composed by Salim-Sulaiman,” she informs.
