Rock is in Brahma's blood

Brahma returns in a new avatar as melodic rock band Blue Blood, sans some members and their original metal sound.

Rock is in Brahma's blood

Drummer Cyrus Gorimar and lead guitarist Dean Lazarus of the 90s metal sensation best remembered for their 2003 album Reborn, Brahma is back but with a new vision and a progressive sound. The two band members have moved away from the metal sound of their earlier band and have headed straight into melodic and alternative rock.

Cyrus thinks that the world is ruled by melodic and progressive rock today and it’s the way forward. “Look at all the top bands Coldplay or Green Day or U2. Heavy metal doesn’t work that well today. Bands like Metallica are charging half of what they used some years ago,” he says.

So no doubt their latest album Beyond Reach with international record label EMI Records tries to achieve a new age sound. The duo, for the same reason, set out to look for brand new talent for their band. “We wanted someone who hasn’t played with any major bands. And the search and auditions finally brought in lead singer Roald D’Costa on lead vocals and Joshua Rodrigues on bass.”

Beyond Reach has been released internationally in countries like Mexico and Germany and the band will perform the tracks from its latest album in the city next month. The video of the track Walk Away is already airing on TV and the band is shooting for the next video called When It Dies. “Most of our songs in this album are on heartbreak. It's something each one of us goes through at some point and everyone can relate to it,” says Cyrus.

The band isn’t doing many live performances at this point. It’s one of the few bands in India at the moment concentrating on their album first. One more reason for this is that the band does not want to settle for less money for their live acts. “Many bands are ready to perform even for free. That just brings the whole market price down. Why would a club pay if they know there are many bands out there who are ready to perform for free? We will never do that!” says Cyrus.

What the band is aiming to do is to become the highest selling band outside. “We don’t want to do one odd live performance abroad. We want to do international tours. A tour will work out very soon,” says Cyrus.
