Resul Pookutty on Academy’s voting board

He refuses to fade away from the  media spotlight. One day he is on the streets of Chennai capturing sounds for the forthcoming biggest film in Tamil — the 100 plus crore, sci-fi Endhiran starting Rajnikanth and Aishwarya Rai., the next day he is  at a college function extolling students to learn the art of  listening and yet another day, he is in the studios of Mumbai’s entertainment district mixing and creating magic with celluloid. And in between all thi, there has been a constant stream of accolades, awards, nominations and invitations that keeps pouring in from across the world.

Yet another feat in his illustrious cap, Resul Pookutty is elated on being invited to be on The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the roster of voting members and is part of 135 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. “I see this as a wider recognition of Asian talent and also Bollywood on a broader platform, which also means that a wider say in the quality of films produced worldwide and its due recognition. I look at this is a honour and recognition for Asian technicians,”, he says.
Resul who has consicoulsy chosen to work in India and balance his new found fame and glory in Hollywood with various offers pouring in from his agents who “keep harping about my lack of interest to take up new projects there.”I feel I have a greater role in Indian cinema and the work am getting here is equally challenging in changing the landscape of Indian cinema he says. I am doing some of the best productions in Indian cinema and can’t be running after fame that beckons me in Holllywood.”

Currently he is in the hectic schedules of dubbing and mixing sound for Endhiran before AR Rahman can take over for the back ground score. Then he is off to US for the final mix before landing on the sets of SRK’s Ra.One in London and then back to Mexico for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Hollywood production. “My studio still does a lot of indie- productions and budget films,” Resul adds on a hindsight saying he stands for good cinema.
