‘Relationships are a waste of time’

Model-turned-actor Monikangana Dutta would rather focus all her attention on work; says her success in Bollywood notwithstanding, she would never give up modelling.

‘Relationships are a waste of time’

Monikangana Dutta, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest find, is super-excited about her dream debut opposite Hrithik Roshan in Guzaarish. Surprisingly Moni (as she is called in modelling circles) doesn’t have any intention to leave modelling for acting.

“I will not leave modelling. Period! Modelling has given me the kind of exposure that I didn’t even imagine. I never imagined that one day I will be walking on the ramps of Paris and Milan. I don’t want to quit this career even if I make a cut in Bollywood,” she says, adding, “I am still working with a top agency which handles all the well-known models in the world. I would be a fool to let go of such a career after working so hard for it. Though Bollywood has given me a face in India, my modelling career gave me an international exposure which few models in India have achieved.”

It’s precisely because of this passion she feels relationships are a ‘waste of time’. “Getting into relationships is a waste of time at this moment. A relationship weighs down so heavily on you that your work starts suffering. I am happily single and I don’t want to get into any mess right now,” she says.

Strangely, Moni admits that she runs away from the flashbulbs when she is not working. “I actually don’t like posing in front of the camera, there’s this shyness that takes over me. That is why I run away when I see somebody training their lens on me. I don’t like anybody clicking my pictures. I know that I sound a little funny but believe me it’s true,” she says.

The model-turned-actor is very aware of her unconventional looks. “I am aware of my looks and that I don’t fit into the typical looks of a Bollywood heroine. But I don’t care what you call exotic looks. I am what I am and I am comfortable with my looks and my body,” she says.

When asked about one dream that she has, she says, “I want to do a lot for Assam (her native state), more in terms of charity than fashion. That’s my dream.”
