Rani Mukherjee cancels debut at the Cannes to be with ailing father

With her dad not keeping well, actor Rani Mukherjee has opted out of her debut outing at the Cannes Film Festival. The actress informed her sponsors on Thursday evening and cancelled her Cannes tour along with all her outdoor assignments. Rani’s father, Ram Mukherjee is a retired filmmaker and one of the founders of Filmalaya Studios in Mumbai. “I don’t want to go anywhere as my dad’s not keeping well these days. I want to stay with my dad till he recuperates fully,” says Rani.

Sources say that that Ram is a heart patient and has had two bypass surgeries in the past. His blood pressure levels are unstable, but doctors assure that they can be controlled. “Since he needs to have someone by his side all the time, Rani is making sure to be there with him throughout as she’s very close to him. Rani is a chatterbox when she is with her dad, and her constant chatter cheers him up,” adds the source.

Ask Rani about missing out on the opportunity to be at Cannes and she says, “It is disappointing to not be able to make my debut at the Cannes this year, but there’s always a next time. I don’t want to be thousands of miles away in a foreign country, when I know that my dad needs me to be beside him. I have cancelled all my outdoor assignments. I will be beside my dad the whole time.”

Rani informs that she’s planning to stay home till the 20th of this month. “There is an outdoor schedule coming up during the end of this month and I think I will be able to make it to that by then,” she says.
