Rani Mukerji dazzles visitors at the first day of her Durga Puja

The crowd gathered was expecting actor Rani Mukerji to make a brief appearance but she made a ‘pretty’ good show on the first day of the Durga puja organised by her family at Santacruz.

“Durga puja is family time for me. It brings back all my childhood memories. It is such a good feeling to see all my family members rejoice under one roof,” says the actor who was looking dapper in a white saree with a red and black border.

According to Rani, Durga puja is a time when everybody should join together and celebrate, regardless of faith or religion.

“I am personally inviting everybody to attend the puja. The doors are open for all. In fact, I urge everybody to make time and come at least once during prasad time (distributed free of cost to devotees who come and visit the puja). We cook a delicious Khuchudi (a Bengali version of the Khichdi) and tomato chutney (a sweet tomato Bengali dessert). It is a must-have for everybody,” says the actor.

According to the puja organisers, the evening programme saw a host of B-town celebs troop down for a dekko. “Musician Bappa Lahiri, film-maker Ayan Mukerji of Wake Up Sid fame  and the like turned up. Overall it was a superb show and we all loved it,” says Debu Mukerji, one of the organisers of the The North Bombay Sarbajanin Durga Puja Charitable Trust and DNA
Durgotsav 2010.

Rani stayed at the puja for three hours and welcomed every guest of the family who had come down to attend the puja. Apart from Rani, her mother and brother Raja Mukerji were also constantly by her side.

“For today’s puja, we will have Pritam performing with his band. We are very happy with the love that Mumbaikars have showered on our puja and I want to wish all of them a very happy festive season on behalf of the entire Mukerji family,” Debu adds.
