Rajini’s fans up in arms against Madame Tussauds

By his next birthday, South star Rajinikanth might have his own wax statue at Madame Tussauds.

It’s been a long pending demand from his fans.  With Madame Tussauds still silent on the matter, a 63,000-member fanclub of Rajinikanth kicked off an online campaign demanding that a statue be put into place immediately. Considering that the number of fans of the South superstar runs close to a billion worldwide, Madame Tussauds apparently is feeling the heat.

“Everybody is aware of the protests that started yesterday on December 12 (also Rajini’s birthday). And from the information I’ve got,   Madame Tussauds have also principally agreed to put into a place a statue of the South star,” says a source close to actor-singer Dhanush, Rajinikanth’s son-in-law. The online campaign started by the fanclub includes chain mails and a signature campaign to include star’s statue at the wax museum.

Several South Indian and Bollywood stars have apparently contacted to take part in the online campaign.

“There is hardly any actor — in Bollywood or the South industry— who’s not a fan of Rajini Sir. I am sure they won’t be able to ignore when Rajini’s  fans turn out in such force to include his statue in the museum,” adds the source.

A source close to Madame Tussauds officials said that the authorities are aware of the demand and might make an announcement soon.
