Priyanka Chopra continues her green crusade

Actress Priyanka Chopra has always been in the forefront when it came to creating awareness on environmental issues. And she relentlessly continues her green crusade even on World Environmental Day (WED) today. One of her agenda today is to urge everyone through a video to plant a tree.

“The issues affecting our environment is growing everyday — deforestation, garbage and sewage production on the rise, depletion of animal life, increased concretisation of our cities, towns and villages, clogging of major rivers and arteries, melting of the glacers, changes in climate patterns and the depleting ozone due to harmful gas. We have to understand that we have reached a stage where it’s no longer about just protecting our environment for future generations. The damage to the environment is affecting our lives today as well.”

Chopra also takes her star status seriously, knowing that she has the power to motivate people with it. “As a celebrity, people do look up to me and I hope that I can motivate them to get involved,” she says.

“I feel strongly about the need to protect the environment and aim to bring about an awareness about all the issues affecting it. It’s important that we start taking action now — from an individual level to the highest level of government — to minimise future harm to the environment.  We have to understand that any action is good, big or small. Simple things like switching off lights and fans when not in use, car-pooling, ensuring vehicles are properly serviced, recycling of all the materials we use like paper, plastic etc has the power to make a huge difference.”
