Mumbai: Hindi film star Hrithik Roshan's bash late on Sunday night did not go down too well with his neighbours. One of them reportedly called the police as loud music was being played by the DJ at the actor's residence till about 3am. Policemen descended on the actor's Juhu residence in Il Palazzo and pulled him up for breaking the 10pm loudspeaker deadline.

Hrithik Roshan had some uninvited guests at the birthday bash of his mother, when the police turned up.

The police, however, simply warned the star. The law (Noise Pollution Regulation and Control Rules, 2000) clearly state that a person can be fined Rs200.

The duty officer at the Juhu police station said, "We received a complaint from a person who did not reveal his identity. We checked and found the music was too loud and the actor was given a warning."

The who's who of tinsel town, including Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan, Saif Ali Khan and girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Katrina Kaif, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, Genelia D'Souza, Kangana Ranaut, and Shilpa and Raj Kundra, had driven to Hrithik's residence to dance the night away at his ninth floor pad.

But when contacted, the star's father, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, claimed not to know anything about the matter. "I wasn't there at the party and I did not hear anything about the cops coming down to the house," he said.

Readers' comments:
Periodically, Bollywood stars and other Mumbai celebrities have been found violating Noise Pollution Rules by using loudspeakers in the early hours of the morning and distraught neighbours have had to call in the police. It is high time the police send a clear message that this will no longer be tolerated and that the law is equal for all.

The Noise Pollution Rules provide for up to Rs1 lakh penalty, a small price to pay for those who should be setting an example to the rest of us but choose instead to wilfully violate the law of the land and set a precedent that laws are made to be violated if you only have enough clout, with total disregard for the pain caused to their neighbours. I believe the police should take action as provided by the law, rather than let people off with 'warnings' and leave them free to continue illegal loudspeaker use with impunity.
