'Peepli Live' promo takes a dig at producer Aamir Khan

True to his wont of doing things differently, a promo of Aamir Khan's latest production Peepli Live pokes fun at the ace actor and filmmaker himself.

As per the teaser, a journalist is making fun of Aamir by saying he has lost it completely and hence after making a blockbuster like Lagaan, he is now contemplating a movie on the happenings in a fictitious village called Peepli.

Further, the journalist, shown standing with some wafer packets having Ghajini and Aamir Khan written on them (both spelt incorrectly) in the background, says if the movie bombs at the Box Office, he would have to eat snacks of the brand named after him!

Another promo, unveiled amidst peals of laughter from the gathering of chaotic media persons by Aamir, has two villagers discussing who would commit suicide to get back the land while a song 'Rangrangeela Prajatantra...' plays in the background.

The 45-year-old 'Mr Perfectionist', speaking to reporters, said the movie is a satire on the civil society.

"Peepli Live is not about farmers' suicides as you people have been saying for the last year or so. It is a satire on society including media and administration. It depicts the growing divide between urban and rural India," he said.

The movie, with a budget of Rs 10-12 crore, has been written and directed by debutante Anusha Rizvi, a former journalist, who was missing at the event.

Aamir said she has done a marvellous job by not being judgemental or adopting a negative approach in the movie. "She has lived upto the faith and trust," he added.

Peepli Live, which has been given an 'A' certificate by the Censor Board, is releasing on August 13.

"It is because of the language that the movie has got the 'A' certificate. I am okay with it," Aamir said.

The movie has been shot in a village near Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.

Regarding Peepli Live's casting, Aamir Khan said though the movie does not boast of any big names, the actors are well-trained.

Several actors are debutantes. Most of them are from Habib Tanvir's 'Naya Theatre', he added.

Also, the late theatre tsar's daughter Nageen too has composed and sung a song for the movie which has background score by Mathias Duplessy from France.

While some songs are by the Indian Ocean band, a song "Mahangayee..." which is a take on the ever-spiralling inflation, used to be sung by the villagers where the movie was shot and has been used in the film, Aamir said, humming the number which won an instant applause from the media persons.
