Objectionable content in Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming film?

With censor board chiefs getting changed and a backlog, Anurag’s film got past with minimum cuts, members now fear a backlash

Objectionable content in Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming film?

Apparently there has been a disagreement within the Censor Board itself while reviewing actor Kalki Koechlin’s forthcoming film because of a few suggestive sex scenes.

In the film, Kalki, portraying a young adult, is shown engaging in sexual favours given to men above the age of 65 years in exchange of money.

“When we got to know about it, we strongly objected to the scenes because the actors that Kalki was engaging in sexual acts with are old enough to be her grandfathers. These scenes are not suitable for audience who are just 18 years old. But then there were changes happening at the top and people were busy clearing back-logs, so the film was passed with an ‘A’ certificate,” says a member of the Censor Board.

The objections of the members notwithstanding, the board has surprisingly gone ahead and cleared the film on August 20, 2010 (CIL/3/63/2010). At that point of time, it was Censor Board Chief Sharmila Tagore’s last year as well the final year of Regional Censor Board officer Vinayak Azad. Both Azad and Sharmila relinquished their position within three months of each other early this year.

“Kalki plays a masseuse in the film who gives handjobs to her clients and we all thought that these scenes were objectionable. We gave a few cuts but unfortunately further cuts couldn’t be made as it slipped through the bureaucratic gap that was created. We are thinking of having a word with the new censor chief since we think that a section of the public might be offended with the content, especially about a young adult performing sexual acts on considerably old men. It is unfortunate that those scenes were passed. We just hope there’s no backlash on us because of the film,” the Board member added about the film.

The film is produced and directed by Anurag Kashyap starring his wife Kalki in the lead role.
