Nobody can play Kishore Kumar, says Asha Bhosle

Music legend Kishore Kumar’s favourite singer and closest colleague Asha Bhosle disagrees with the plan to make a biopic on his life.

Ranbir Kapoor is reportedly playing the legendary singer in a forthcoming film to be directed by Anurag Basu.

But Bhosle believes it’s next to impossible for anyone to play the late singer.

“Kishore Kumar was one of a kind," the veteran singer said. "He cannot be replicated easily on the big screen. It is very difficult for today’s actors to replicate his persona on screen. It’s impossible.

"I haven’t spoken to Ranbir about it, but I don’t think that anyone can do an honest portrayal of the legend,” she said.

According to Bhosle, Kishore Kumar was not your regular Joe. “One can replicate a Mohd Rafi, a Lata Mangeshkar or an Asha Bhosle but not a Kishore Kumar,” she said.

Basu has reportedly intensified his research for the upcoming biopic. He plans to meet Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, two of the playback singers who sang the most duets with Kishore Kumar.

“Ranbir has been watching Kishore Kumar flicks non-stop to get familiar and comfortable with Kishore Kumar’s body language and personality,” said a source.
