No honeymoon for TV stars

No honeymoon for TV stars

The TV industry’s had several of its leading stars tie the knot in the past few months.

Ironically however, the time that these stars probably spend shooting for their wedding or honeymoon scenes on camera for the small screen is far more than what they get to do in real life for their own weddings.

In fact, thanks to their busy shooting schedules, none of the newly-weds have actually been able to take off on their honeymoons yet.

Actor Giriraj Kabra (Hi Padosi… Kaun Hai Doshi?) who tied the knot with wife Seher in January, in fact reveals how he was shooting even on the day of his wedding.

“We were to launch the show the day after my wedding and it was impossible to reschedule dates when many senior actors are involved too. So, forget honeymoon, I hadn’t even been able to attend my own pre-wedding functions. Thank God at least I made it to my wedding,” he laughs. It was no different for actor Barun Sobti (Baat Hamari Pakki Hai).

Apparently the actor had to report to the sets within two days of his wedding in December.

Actors Sachal Tyagi (Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo fame) and wife Jaya Binju (Kesariya Balam Aavo Hamare Des), who married in November last year, say, “We work on such tight schedules that to build a bank would require us to work for 24 hours daily.  Also, it sometimes becomes difficult to co-ordinate as our schedules often clash.”

But despite the wait, all the actors insist that they can’t be complaining, since it’s for work that they’ve had to postpone the honeymoons.

“When both spouses are clear and focused on their careers, there’s no stress on the marriage. Of course not being able to celebrate ‘honeymoon’ in a certain way is a small price to pay, but then it’s better than complaining about not having work na,” says actor Debina Bannerjee who was hitched to actor boyfriend Gurmeet Chaudhry (Geet) in February this year.

Actor Nandish Sandhu (Uttaran) agrees.

“Though Rashmi (Desai) and I work in the same show, we hardly get to spend time together as we have different tracks, but we’re not bitter about not being able to do so,” he says.

An insider says, “Today TV is so competitive that actors can’t irk anyone for such breaks.”

A producer says, “Even we are in a fix, but actors don’t mind complying too since they know that the moment they step out they might be replaced on grounds of unprofessionalism.”

Another actor says, “Also, it’s foolish to let go of plum projects that can sponsor many more such honeymoons later,” he concludes.
