No compromises for Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka admits that she is fiercely competitive, but won’t succumb to the pressure of any tag!

No compromises for Priyanka Chopra

Actress Priyanka Chopra may have several hit songs to her credit, however unlike her peers, the hottie is yet to do an item song. But ask her about it and the actor says that it’s never been a priority. “This entire trend of item numbers… I don’t think that it is at all integral to being an actor!” says Priyanka. However, the actor reveals that she is not averse to doing one either. “I love dancing, but as for item songs, I’ve never felt the pressure of doing one.

Tomorrow if a great song comes along, I may do it, but not because of any pressure or just because everyone’s doing it,” adds PC, who is equally dismissive about tags like the 100-crore heroine, even though she herself has been a member of the much-coveted club twice over. “It’s just a phrase that everyone’s been latching on to… you know bhhed chaal ki aadat hai. But that doesn’t mean that if a film doesn’t cross the 100-crore mark, it’s not a superhit film. So, I just think such tags are very futile,” explains the actor. Currently, the actor’s gearing for her upcoming film Teri Meri Kahaani, wherein her characters span over three eras. Ask the actor if she’d rather be born in any other era and PC says that though it was fun visiting the past decades, she relates the most to the present day. “I am a full-on 21st century girl,” she says. But is she as romantic offscreen as her onscreen characters are? “Absolutely! For me, love makes the world go around and I strongly believe that one should never compromise in love or settle for anything less,” insists the actor.

Like love, the actor reveals that she doesn’t believe in settling for anything less when it comes to her work either. “I am very competitive yes, but am also content with my career. I feel blessed to have been playing some really strong roles, and all in different genres too,” says PC referring even to the films in hand, including Barfi and Krissh 3. Films apart, the actor’s just as ambitious about her music too. “Yes, it’s work in progress. It’s an English album and we are working on the right music. I think making music is a very organic process and I don’t want to rush it. I want it to represent me and what I am. At the same time, like Shakira or any other such artistes, I want my songs to reflect and interpret our culture,” explains the actor. Balancing films, music, endorsements… may be rather hectic, but the actor says that she wouldn’t want to change anything at all. “I think I’m in a great phase right now. And the world’s really my oyster and like I said, I won’t settle for anything less,” smiles Priyanka.
