No big bashes for my birthday: Abhay Deol

For actor Abhay Deol, birthday celebrations have always been a family and friends affair, and this year too, it’s no different. The actor, currently on a break, is going to spend some quiet, quality time with his near and dear ones on his special day.

Quiz him about it, and he says, “I stopped celebrating and throwing these big bashes after I turned 25. The wild parties reduced, and birthdays became more of a close-knit affair. I usually work through the day, but this is the first time in three years that I’m going to be home. Last year too, I took some time off, but this year I’m absolutely doing nothing at the moment.”

Deol is not amongst those who gripe about growing older, instead he says he’s in a happy space at this stage. “I like to celebrate each day of my life, and thank God for the wonderful family and friends he has blessed me with. I celebrate being me, and who I am. I like growing old and I’d like to believe I’m getting a lot wiser too,” says the young actor.

What about resolutions for the year ahead? “I stopped making resolutions,” drawls Deol adding, “Because I eventually stopped living up to them. I have few goals in life though which I hope to fulfill.”

And what is that special gift that he’s looking forward to? “Everyone likes to receive a gift, but frankly I don’t expect too much. I don’t even expect my friends and family to remember my birthday. I don’t let these things affect me as I tend to forget their birthdays too. So, we are equal,” he winks.

And where does his model-turned-actor girlfriend, Preeti Desai feature in all the celebration? Reports have it that they are planning to get engaged?  “These reports are completely false and baseless,” says a livid Deol. “It’s sad. Just because I choose not to clarify certain things, people continue speculating. What I do in my personal life remains personal,” he adds.
