The third movie in the Narnia fantasy franchise and a romantic thriller starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp both fell flat in Britain over the weekend, according to Screen International on Tuesday.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader opened at No 1 but could make only 2.46 million pounds ($3.9 million), echoing its disappointing performance in North America.

By contrast, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 which was down in second place after three weeks at No. 1, made 18.3 million in its opening UK weekend.

The Tourist, with Jolie and Depp as a mismatched pair exploring Venice, made its debut at No 3 with a take of only 1.3 million pounds.

Megamind, with the supervillain finding life pointless after defeating his arch-enemy Metro Man, slipped two places to fourth, just above Denzel Washington and Chris Pine in runaway train thriller Unstoppable, which was down at five from three.

Pregnancy-themed road movie Due Date slipped two to sixth while Monsters was also down two, at seven, with aliens on the prowl in Mexico.

Director Sofia Coppola's Somewhere with Elle Fanning and Stephen Dorff came in at eight while another newcomer, Bollywood romp No Problem, opened in ninth place.

George Clooney as a hit man in The American was the week's biggest faller, down four spots at 10.
