Nagpur-based world's shortest woman eyes acting career

Nagpur woman Jyoti Amge, declared the world's shortest woman by Guinness World Records, is all set to act in a Kannada movie slated for release next year.

"I always wanted to make a career in acting. This title of world's shortest woman will take my career to new heights," Amge, who stands 62.8 cm tall, said.

It was double celebration for Amge, who was given the title Friday - her 18th birthday.

Amge was measured three times over the day before she was given the title. Doctors at the city's Wockhardt Hospital measured her in presence of Rob Molloy, the official adjudicator for Guinness World Records.

Amge wept with joy as she was presented a certificate, in the presence of her father, Kisan, 55, and mother, Ranjana, 50.

"I am really very very happy that I was given this title. I cannot express in words, what this means to me," she told IANS.

"I am doing a Kannada film and will be shooting in Mysore soon. I will also be in Europe for two months in the coming summer," she said.

When asked if she would join an acting school, Amge said she knows the basics well and does not need to learn it.

"I would do exactly what my director expects out of the scene. What is the need to learn something in a school when you know. You learn it much better on the job," she asked.

Amge has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia that has restricted her height to that of an average four-month-old baby girl. She has just passed her Class 10 exam and intends to take up acting full time.

The previous holder of the record for the world's shortest living woman title was 69.49 cm-tall Bridgette Jordan, from Illinois, in the US.
