The Ekjute theatre group, headed by Nadira Zaheer Babbar, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a 11-day festival here from today.

'Ekjute 30 years Caravan' will be held in Mumbai till April 24 followed by similar events in Bangalore, Delhi, Pune and many other cities.

The group has pioneered various forms of theatre since its formation in 1981 and continues to set trends and standards in promoting quality Hindi theatre.

The festival will feature 18 running productions of Ekjute, starring some of the most prominent faces of film talent television and the theatre world along with an ensemble cast of various theatre enthusiasts.

Platform performances from traditional folks forms, street plays on socio-political topics, theatre workshops, seminar, Face to Face, exhibitions of sets and costumes, felicitation of old backstage workers, decoration and lighting will be the other attractions of this festival.

All plays over the 11-day festival will be held at the Prithvi Theatre, Janki Kutir, Juhu in suburban Mumbai.

The festival was today flagged of with Ekjute's magnum opus production, Bollywood Ka Salaam...1950s ke naam.

During the festival, 25 shows of 17 of the theatre company's productions will be staged.

The closing event will have Sukhwinder Singh, Usha Utthup, Richa Sharma performing at Jashn ki raat, the closing ceremony.

Babbar said this fund raising event will make sure that Ekjute lends a helping hand to much needed causes, especially to those belonging to the theatre fraternity.
