My upcoming film is not a remake of 'Himmatwala': Sajid Khan

He’s been the funny man on television for many years before carrying the tag with him to the silver screen. And host-cum-dost-turned-film-maker, Sajid Khan, who, in his own words, eats, drinks and sleeps films, is living his dream of making films.

While he’s busy shooting the second schedule of Housefull 2, he’s already been signed on by producer Vashu Bhagnani for a yet untitled film with Ajay Devgn. While the buzz doing the rounds is that the film is a remake of the hit Jeetendra-starrer, Himmatwala, Sajid clears the air. “The film has nothing similar to Himmatwala, leave alone being a remake. I don’t know how and why such misinformation reaches out to the public. This sounds like what I heard a few days back — that I’m getting married,” he states.

The conversation veers back to Housefull 2 and Sajid is his usual animated self again. “We had a fantastic first schedule at London with Akshay (Kumar), John (Abraham), Riteish (Deshmukh), Asin and Jacqueline (Fernandez). If you’ve loved the first film, I promise this one will be a greater laugh riot — more loud, over-the-top and extravagant,” he informs.

Quiz him on the inclusion of a number of new faces in the cast, including the leading ladies, John, Shreyas Talpade, Mithun Chakraborty, Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor, Zarine Khan, to name a few and Sajid explains, “There’s not been a single sequel made with the entire cast from the previous film, then why mine? The story is different and demands new faces — that’s foremost to me. In fact, I know of some sequels that have been made with an entirely fresh lot of actors.”

Sajid, who’s known for his distinct style of humour, feels that the industry needs to explore the comic genre more whole-heartedly. “Who doesn’t want a good laugh? I don’t understand what intelligent humour means — it’s a lot like trying to differentiate between smile and laugh,” he signs off.
