My publicist told me to go for breast reduction: Sofia Vergara

Many Hollywood starlets are encouraged to augment their breast size, but actor Sofia Vergara was told the opposite and was actually advised to consider breast reduction surgery.

The Modern Family actress, 39, confirmed that when she first arrived in Los Angeles from her native Barranquilla, Colombia, she felt out of place with her voluptuous figure.

“I felt a little different,” she said. “My publicist [at the time] told me, ‘I think you should just reduce your boobs because nobody’s going to take you seriously here.’”

Obviously, Vergara didn’t take her then-publicist’s advice, and she credits her mother’s influence for convincing her to keep her breasts intact. “My mother almost had a heart attack. She was like, ‘God is going to punish you! You can’t cut your boobs!’ I don’t regret not doing it, because now it’s become a big part of Gloria [her character on Modern Family],” she explained.

But Vergara isn’t opposed to all forms of plastic surgery — just the kind that is aimed specifically at looking “young.” She says, “I’m not against it at all. But I think you should go into it more thinking that you want to look beautiful than trying to look young. Because I don’t really think that plastic surgery can make you look young ... if you go in with the mentality of being young I think that’s where accidents can happen.”
