‘My daughter is a fighter’

Dad Rakesh Roshan feels it’s Sunaina’s diehard spirit, which helped her overcome cancer, reports Shilpa Jamkhandikar  

They say when the going gets tough, the tough get going and film-maker Rakesh Roshan can vouch for the fact that daughter Sunaina Roshan is one of those ‘tough’ people. Sunaina has just recovered from cervical cancer, and the film-maker admits that her illness was very hard on the family.

“I am emotionally weak. My  family is my weakness. When Sunaina was diagnosed with cancer, I almost broke down, but  it was she who gave me support when it should have been the other way round,” he says.

“In fact, when we were first told about her illness, we couldn’t believe it. But I am proud to say that my daughter is a fighter. She never gave up hope and nor did she let us lose it. Around the same time Hrithik (Roshan, son) also suffered a knee injury, but we rallied together as a family,” he adds.

“Now of course, she is absolutely fine. We went in for some tests last month and the doctors said that there are no signs of cancer anymore. Presently, Sunaina is helping me with production of my next project Krazzy 4. She is quite unstoppable.”

Life in the Roshan household has been quite busy and it’s bound to get busier now, with the impending arrival of Hrithik’s second child. “My life revolves around my grandchildren,” he says and it is obvious by the number of pictures of Hrehaan (Hrithik and Suzanne’s son) and Suranika (Sunaina’s daughter) that adorn his office.
“I became a grandfather at a young age. So I got the chance to enjoy the kids. We play a lot. They are very smart kids,” he adds.

Right now, Roshan is busy with the  post production and release of  Krazzy 4 as well as the pre-production of his next venture with Anurag Basu titled Kites. The film will have Hrithik paired opposite Brazilian model Barbara Mori.
