Music stars who rocked India in 2011

2011 was a happening year in terms of the music scene in India. This year saw a spate of international music celebrities visit India. From pop star Lady Gaga to rock band Mettalica performed in various cities and drove their Indian fans crazy. Zinnia Ray Chaudhuri lists out who all…

Bryan Adams
In February the ‘Summer of 69’ star gave his fourth concert in India. Bryan Adams has a large fan following among Indians and huge crowds flocked to his concerts to see the ’18 till I die’ legend live. Even though his concert in Delhi got canned, the Canadian pop star rocked Pune and Mumbai.

Akon
The Senegalese-American singer celebrated his birthday with his Indian fans at his concert in Gurgaon in April. Akon was all about pleasing the crowd. And pleased they were (especially the ladies) when the hip hop singer took off his shirt and threw it into the crowd. He delivered favourites like ‘Don’t matter', 'Ghetto', 'Smack that' etc.

Akon left an exhilarated crowd behind but not before he shouted out “Delhi, you’re all party animals!”

Lady Gaga
Wearing a gown by an Indian designer and sporting a Tricolor hairdo, the pop star greeted her Indian fans with a humble Namaste. She performed at a Formula One after-party.

The ‘Pokerface’ star, who is known for her eccentric performances, went Indian for her Concert here. Her outfit was inspired by Indian culture and she even collaborated with a Sitar player to give her “little monsters” some fusion music.

Metallica
Metallica performing in India resulted in a lot of controversy but after their performance in Bangalore ‘Nothing else mattered’. Bangalore fans head banged till they were dizzy and screamed themselves hoarse at the metal band’s performance.

Despite the Delhi debacle the tour was a successful one and the band said that it was one of their best concerts on their Twitter page.

Shakira
The ‘Waka Waka’ star was in India in November to perform at the birthday party of KP Singh, a real estate tycoon, in Udaipur. The performance was a private one and not many from the general public got to see Shakira, except the eager crowd who turned up to catch a glimpse of the Spanish pop star before she was quickly whisked away.

Imogen heep
Imogen heap, best known as the lead singer of the band ‘Frou Frou’, was in India in December and visited Mumbai and Pune as a part of her tour.

The Indie rock singer was pleasantly surprised to find such an ardent fan following in India and was all praises for Indian music.

Pitbull
Armando Christian Perez - popularly known as Pitbull - performed in India in December. His concert in Mumbai was a classy affair where fans turned up in snazzy bling-ed out outfits as opposed to the grungy look that generally characterizes concerts. The Hip Hop singer drove the crowd crazy with popular numbers like ‘I know you want me’, ‘Hotel room service’ etc.

The Delhi concert though was a disappointment as the rapper turned up three hours late and left after giving a short performance. But there were still some fans who couldn’t care less and enjoyed the performance thoroughly.
