Midival Punditz: The rhythm of the universe!

Celebrating artistic plurality seems to be the motto behind NCPA’s third edition of the popular festival One World Many Musics.

The festival kick starts with an exhilarating performance by Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj of Midival Punditz, who will captivate listeners into the world” of many music with their electronic act; it opens on December 15 and 16, at Tata Theatre, NCPA at 7:30 pm.

The festival is a platform to showcase varied musical traditions and reaffirm the peaceful co-existence of cultural and artistic diversity in the world.

Dr Suvarnalata Rao, head programming (Indian Music) of NCPA talks about the concept, “We’re trying to bridge man-made divides through music. Even if language is foreign, music instantly connects.”  Dr. Suvarnalata Rao further adds, “The festival acts have been chosen for their efforts to combine world music with Indian sound. We are very pleased to bring two wonderful performances for our audience; their unique equation between the bass, flute, tabla and electronic instrument will surely satisfy the improviser in every listener.”

The opening act of the festival will be followed by another performance by the incredible duo of U Srinivas (Mandolin) and Shrikanth Sriram aka Shri (Bass, Flute, Tabla) on December 16.The Indian fusion group Midival Punditz’s performance will include a video background synchronized with music and captures real-time images and clips of the band performing on stage, offering a matchless experience to the audience.

On the other hand Shri’s (Shrikanth Sriram) multi-instrumental expressions capture the energy of the drum, flute, bass and electronica along with throat percussion and vocal bass to create intricate arrangements informed by entrancing Indian ragas, contemporary rock elements and jazz improvisations.

The collaboration with U Srinivas and Lindsay D’Mello promises an eclectic collection of beats, mixing different genres, incorporating chords, textures and sounds that are beyond imagination.

With this endeavour, NCPA aims at providing a platform for musicians to experiment with music and create magic.
