Michael Phelps' 22 medals is no mean feat: Abhishek Bachchan

Actor Abhishek Bachchan, a self-confessed sports enthusiast, is scheduled to be in London for the ongoing Summer Olympics. The actor who’s always had a keen interest in sports, is going there as the Indian ambassador of a watch brand, which is the official timekeeper of the Olympics.

While the actor has been closely following the sporting event from home, he now plans to catch up with a couple of athletes if he does get the required permission. “I am very excited to be at one of the biggest sporting events in the world. While my father has been there before, this will be my first time. I am going to be there for five days,” says the actor.

The actor is also a huge fan of swimming champion, Michael Phelps, who recently made history when he won his 22nd Olympic medal. At the time of going to press, Abhishek was slated to meet his idol as they both represent the same brand. “I would love to see Michael Phelps swim. It would be fantastic to meet him. They are all put up at the Village and will be busy as they have to train. Getting the highest number of medals at Olympics is no mean feat,” he adds.

While Abhishek is excited about his visit to London, he is also looking forward to cheering for the Indian athletes who are competing there. “I have been keeping track of the games and I am immensely proud of our country’s athletes. I will be there to cheer and support them. I think just qualifying to play at the Olympics itself is a big deal. It is a huge honour for them just to be representing their country at an international level. So good luck to all of them. I am sure they will do us proud,” he signs off.
