Maushmi Udeshi talks about not wanting to make ‘compromises’

Maushmi Udeshi is yet to find her foothold in Bollywood but she doesn’t have any regrets as to the choices she has made.

She confesses that Bollywood is a tough place to survive and that she is not ready to make any compromises. “It’s really a harsh place to carry on. And being a woman, it’s really frustrating.

Unlike for guys where people at least notice your talent, here everyone thinks about ‘other things’,” she says. Maushmi also says that working on her own terms has made progress in Bollywood difficult. “If you want to get a role in Bollywood, you have to make compromises. Come what may, I don’t want to resort to that,” she says.

After several music videos, Maushmi was seen along with Akshay Kumar and Govinda in Priyadarshan’s Bhagam Bhaag a few years ago. And then she just disappeared from the scene.

“When I met Priyadarshan for the first time, he told me I was too skinny. Later, when I put on weight at the right places, he cast me in his film. And after that I got several offers but most of those films got hit by the recession” she adds.

Maushmi moved down South and tasted success there. “I have got a very good response down South and I am happy in my space. And all my movies which were stuck due to recession will see the light of the day very soon,” adds an excited Maushmi.

Remind Maushmi that she used walk the ramp a lot but is hardly seen on the runway these days and she counters, “Walking for a fashion designer means you have to go for trials many times before the actual show. It doesn’t even pay as much as ads. So, I prefer to do print ads instead.”

Talking about music videos, she says, “Music videos are small projects but procure good money and demand less time. That’s the reason I have done many of them. They’ve managed to get a good response too.

“My most recent music video is called Harjaai where I play a fantasy girl for a Hyderabadi man,” she adds. Most of the actors now descend on the small screen to earn fast bucks, but Maushmi is not keen on taking that route. “I don’t see myself doing television. I don’t want to try for TV now. And as far as reality shows are concerned, I hate them. They are all scripted and there is no scope to show your talent at all,” she ends.
