Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress which she wore in the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch has been sold for $4.6 million at an auction in California.

During a moment in the classic movie, the ivory pleated Travilla dress flew up as air rose from the subway grate underneath, revealing Monroe's legs, in the glory of Technicolor and CinemaScope.

Monroe was definitely the star at the auction of Hollywood memorabilia as her costumes were sold at whooping prices, reports CBS News.

The actress’s red-sequin number from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and her dress from a Little Girl from Little Rock fetched $1.2 million.

Monroe's saloon girl costume from River of No Return also fetched $510,000 and her skimpy outfit from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which she wore during the ‘Heat Wave’ number, went for a half-million.

The auction, held at the Calabasas, Calif.-based Profiles in History, was the first day on the block of the Debbie Reynolds collection.
