Mallika Sherawat wants to do some good...

Actress Mallika Sherawat may be known for her bold choice of roles in films, but the actor now wants to put her popularity to some good use.

The sultry B-Town actor recently lent her name to a Polio eradication campaign and is overwhelmed by the response. A source close to Mallika says that the international campaign that she was a part of was promoted heavily in various parts of India and other third world countries. “It was basically to urge people to come out and take the vaccine. And as luck would have it, the Indian government has declared that they did not register a single case of polio this time around. Needless to say, Mallika was thrilled and is happy that she got to do her bit,” says the source.
When contacted, the actor said that she wants to use her fame for a cause. “I get a lot of attention wherever I go. So I’m more than just happy if this fame and adulation helps in grabbing the common man’s attention and educating him about eradicating polio. Internationally too, we are very close to bidding goodbye to polio forever,” says Mallika. In fact, she says that this is not a one-time thing and would be happy to contribute towards creating awareness towards other social evils as well. “I’d be humbled if the attention I get can be used for a good cause and the response I got for this campaign has only strengthened my resolve further,” says Mallika.

The source further adds that ever since this campaign was made public, Mallika has been inundated with requests to be part of other such programs. “She is ready to do whatever it takes to be part of campaigns that positively affect the common man’s life. She had to opt out of a few owing to her busy schedules but she’s trying to strike a balance. She’s very passionate about certain causes — Cancer and female foeticide are among them. She can have lengthy conversations with people on these subjects so she definitely wants to make a difference,” says the source.
