Kavitha Lankesh to direct V Ravichandran in 'Krazy Loka'

It has been over three years since the release for her last film Avva and film-maker Kavitha Lankesh is convinced she’s got the right subject to get back to direction.

“I have been working on this script for over one-and-a-half years. Initially, I was looking at making it in Hindi. But, when I found a taker in Kannada to produce the film, I said why not,” Kavitha explains about her latest film Krazy Loka, which is being produced by the Confident Group.

She adds, “The film is about the relationship between a father and his teenage son. In Kannada, among those in that age group, I was convinced only Ravichandran could carry off this role. But, he’s never played a father’s role as such. So, when I approached him, I was unsure. To my surprise, not only did he like the script, but even mentioned how he has never been approached with scripts like this. He’s called the Crazy Star, so the film’s named Krazy Loka. Hopefully crazy people will watch this film. I believe the world’s full of them.”

The film will have actress Daisy Bopanna cast alongside him. Newbie Surya will play his son, while actress Harshika Poonacha too is part of the film.

“The story is set against the backdrop of a college campus. Incidentally, after Premaloka, Ravichandran has never been part of a campus script,” says Kavitha, who believes that her lead actor Surya is a talent that people should watch out for.

“He has trained at Bollywood director Subhash Ghai’s institute. He’s a Kannada boy who holds a lot of promise,” says she. The film was flagged off on June 29, but filming will begin only from from July 21 and should be completed within 45 days.

“We wanted the film to be launched before the month of Aashada begins, as that’s the period in the year that people avoid starting off anything new,” explains Kavitha.

Right from her first film Deveeri to her latest, Kavitha’s scripts have dealt with relationships.

“I have always been drawn toward subjects that deal with interpersonal relationships. While I begin talking about intimate relationships between two individuals, the story reflects the society around it. I hope the people who watch my films come out saying that they found a bit of themselves in there,” says Kavitha.
