Katrina Kaif sidelines Kalki Koechlin

It seems that actress Kalki Koechlin’s nightmares have come true. After becoming filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s wife and even with an acclaimed film Shaitan under her belt, she is being treated as a side-kick to actress Katrina Kaif.

Sources in the film unit confirmed that Kalki is extremely upset over the fact that Katrina has been projected as the heroine of filmmaker Zoya Akhtar’s road movie starring Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol. Kalki plays the to-be wife of Abhay.

“Most of the interviews, songs, trailers and posters are around Katrina. If you compare the visibility of Kalki and Katrina in the promotions, you will get a clear picture. But initially when the roles were conceptualised, Katrina and Kalki’s were parallel roles with equal importance,” says a source.

After being downgraded from the status of a heroine to that of supporting actor, Kalki apparently has not been seen interacting with Katrina too much.

“Kalki has been dropped from the ongoing promotion trip totally. She went to flag off the event, but was left out after that. There is a customised SUV in which the four actors are travelling together (Hrithik, Abhay, Katrina and Farhan) along with Zoya. There is another car in which Farhan’s co-producer Ritesh Sidhwani is travelling. This car was meant for Kalki, who’s not taking part in the road trip. The whole unit is aware of the problem between Kalki and Katrina,” the source adds.

Apparently Kalki’s absence in the promotions is not only about the fact that Katrina is a more saleable actor than Kalki.

“Anurag has rubbed  Shah Rukh (Khan) the wrong way. First, the film No Smoking was offered to SRK, which he refused. Later though SRK was keen to do Danny Boyle’s Bombay Velvet (Anurag is assisting Danny), they approached Aamir (Khan). Now that Kalki has become Anurag’s wife, Hrithik (SRK’s close buddy) will not be seen hobnobbing with her,” the source said. 

Interestingly, it is not only Kalki who is unhappy with Katrina, but the latter apparently did not like the way Kalki, the ‘smaller’ actor  was being projected in the initial rounds.
