Karnataka outfit stages protest to ban 'Aarakshan'

Members belonging to a local social outfit Friday staged a protest against the release of the Hindi film, Aarakshan in front of a theatre in the Bangalore, police said.

About 30 members of the Samata Sainik Dala carried banners, alleging the film through its "anti-reservation stand is an insult to the weaker sections" and demanded a ban on its release.

The screening however went on. There were no other protests reported from any other part of the city, police said.

The film's producer Prakash Jha Friday moved the Supreme Court to lift the ban on his film in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh.

Jha in his writ petition said the ban on Aarakshan` goes against the spirit of freedom of expression guaranteed by the Constitution.
