Karan Johar and SRK sign deal with Fox Star
The Fox Star Studio will be distributing My Name Is Khan, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, for Karan Johar’s company Dharma Productions and Shah Rukh’s company Red Chillies.

According to the deal, the studio will distribute the film in the country and worldwide. Fox Star studios had earlier successfully distributed Slumdog Millionaire in India. At a press conference arranged to announce the deal, Shah Rukh Khan said that he was hopeful that the deal would help them further the cause of taking Indian films abroad.
Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios Pvt Ltd, said that his company would hold all the rights, including music and video rights.

Khan said that he constantly endeavoured to entertain people and hoped that My Name is Khan was a step in that direction. “I don’t want to let anyone down. With all humility I would like to say that in the 20 years of my career and 15 years of Karan’s, we have hit upon a kind of cinema that’s brave and the kind of pop cinema that India stands for today. Internationally, we need to work on the kind of cinema that would respect the tastes of the western audience also,” he said.

When asked if he was hopeful of Oscars (Khan plays an autistic person in the film), since Fox’s last film Slumdog Millionaire won many Oscars, SRK cheekily said, “My Oscars should have come 10 years back. I have written a letter to them asking why the delay.”

Sanford Pantich, the president of international productions, said that the company chose My Name Is Khan, because it was “specially unique”.
