Kabir Bedi to bring 'Sandokan' to India

Kabir Bedi who shot to international fame thanks to the TV series Sandokan years ago is bringing the show to India.

The show about a romantic Asian pirate during the colonial rule of the British broke viewership records in the European continent and made Kabir Bedi a name to reckon with. But till today, it’s largely unseen in his home country.

Now, Bedi himself has decided to bring the show to his people. “It’s quite sad that the show was never seen by majority of Indian folks despite being an international hit, so  I have decided to get it here.”

Kabir has started dubbing for the show in Hindi. “I have secured the rights of the show and have started dubbing myself. I will be talking to channels for the show and I am quite hopeful. In the worst case scenario, even if it doesn’t get any channel I will be launching it on DVDs since home video market is growing rapidly in India,” he adds.

Besides Sandokan, Kabir has many international hits to his credit which includes Italian television series, Un Medico In Famiglia and The Bold and The Beautiful.  Does he intend to bring them too? “I am busy with Sandokan right now. For the rest, I will think later,” he quips.

Though he has always been active on TV internationally, he has practically stayed away from TV in India. “I have always been busy travelling and so did not take up anything which would have long time commitment. Since I have shifted my base here completely, I am open to shows. I would be happy to do a chat show,” he says.

Kabir is also getting into voiceovers as he has dubbed for Ben Kingsley in the Disney film The Prince of Persia. “I have known Ben for a long time and it was really great to dub for a great actor.”
