John Abraham granted bail in 2006 rash driving case

Bollywood actor John Abraham was sentenced to simple imprisonment for 15 days, by metropolitan magistrate SV Kulkarni, on charges of negligence and rash driving four years ago.

However, Abraham moved for bail soon after and was granted against a surety amount of Rs1,500.

He remained present in court with his lawyer Robin Periera.

On April 8, 2006, the actor had rammed his Yamaha 1100 CC motorbike into a cycle, injuring two people. He met with an accident at CD Marg in Khar and was thrown off the vehicle as he rammed into a wall. However, in spite of his injuries, he took both the victims, Shayam Kasbe (22) and Tanmay Majhi (19) to a nearby hospital before getting admitted in Lilavati hospital himself. The court observed, “Your move was humane and kind as you immediately took both the victims to the hospital.”

The court also paid heed to the fact that he did not run away from the spot after the accident.

“Kasbe died of tuberculosis two years after the accident. Both the boys worked at a Bandra liquor shop,” said public prosecutor Anand Sukhdeve. Abraham, along with the bail amount, was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs1,000 to Majhi.

The court has stayed his sentence for a month and granted him time to appeal.

However, the actor will now reportedly head to Kolkata for Durga Puja, which will be followed by him promoting his upcoming film Jhootha Hi Sahi in the days to come.
