‘It’s not easy for TV actors’

Mona Singh explains why she can’t leave her TV space for anything else.

‘It’s not easy for TV actors’

It has always been the same story — TV stars bidding goodbye to small screen to make a transition to films only to make a comeback after having failed there. However, Mona Singh says that she is an exception. The actor doesn’t want to leave her small screen space.

“I have created my own arena in the TV industry and I don’t think I will ever leave that. I don’t want to become one of those actors who have said they won’t do any more TV but had to come back to TV later. It’s not easy for TV actors to break into films. I know most of the actors get frustrated when they leave TV and then can’t manage to get good work in films. TV is a huge medium and I don’t see any reason for leaving such a great space. To top it all, it gives me good money besides keeping me happy,” she says.

She has been a part of reality shows as a contestant but this time she is donning a judge’s hat. “The makers approached me to judge the stand-up comedy show and I was more than happy to join them. I have been a participant, it’s good fun to be on the other side of the fence.”

But a lot of people in the TV industry have raised eyebrows over her small role in 3 Idiots. “I don’t have any complaints. I was an important part of the film’s especially the climax and I was seen in a film which is creating history as its being watched by millions. I don’t want to be a part of a film which will come and go and no will even take notice of it,” she says.

Mona further admits that she doesn’t see herself in the big league. “I guess I don’t fit into the category of a typical Hindi film heroine. I guess I would do more of good characters, something on the lines of what Konkona (Sen) did in her movies. I don’t mind playing good character roles in big commercial movies. To be honest, I am still figuring out my space in Hindi cinema as I am relatively new,” she ends.
