It's a great moment: Amitabh Bachchan on winning third National Award

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, whose performance as a 13-year-old dying of a fatal disease in Paa, won him his third National Award for Best Actor, says that the honour made him feel "worthy and wanted".

The 67-year-old's turn as Auro, reel life son to real life son Abhishek Bachchan in the AB Corps production, impressed the jury which "unanimously" declared him the best.

"Every award is most welcome, it makes you feel worthy and wanted. It is really a great moment for the entire family. I am very happy that Paa has won and Delhi 6 too, which has Abhishek in it," Bachchan told PTI.

Paa won three more awards at the 57th National Awards in New Delhi today, Best Hindi Film, Best Make-up and Best Supporting Actress for Arundhati Nag.

Bachchan said that his wife Jaya was more happy for Abhishek than for him.

"Jaya is really happy, but she is more happy for Abhishek. Well, mothers are always partial to their children. It indeed calls for a family party but Abhishek is shooting on an island far away from here," said Bachchan.

The actor remembered the experience of shooting Paa and said that it was indeed a tiring film.

"It was a tiring film. I would sit for five hours to get the make-up and then it will take another few hours to get it off. But in the end we all know that we did a marvellous job," said Bachchan.

With his win, the actor has joined a elite league of actors with multiple National Awards in their kitty, moving one step ahead of Malayalam superstar Mammootty who has won the award thrice.

Bachchan won the award for Best Newcomer in 1969 for Saat Hindustani, and went on to get two Best Actor trophies -- in 1991 for his portrayal of the angry young man Vijay Deenanath Chauhan in Agnipath and in 2006 for Black.

Abhishek Bachchan meanwhile took to micro-blogging website Twitter to share the good news with everyone.

"My son just won the National Award for his performance in Paa. I'm a very proud father today. Paa has won 4 National Awards! So excuse me for a while going off to do the monkey dance!," wrote Abhishek.
