It is passion that drives me: Anurag Anand

Anurag Anand’s tryst with literature began at a young age and his passion for writing was sustained and nurtured even through years of white collar work as a marketing professional.

He explains, “For me, it is about creating a balance between your passion and daily bread.”

And he does just that with his new novel venture, The Quest for Nothing, where he infuses intrigue and complexity into a world he is familiar with. He says, “The book is autobiographical and a complete work of fiction. I have collected the experiences from the world around me. The plot is fictional but also something that happens all the time in the corporate world.”

So does he plan a corporate exposé with this book? He laughs, “It isn’t an expose like the casting couch phenomena in the film industry but I have documented social behaviour.

When both spouses are working, they spend a major part of their life in office settings rather than home. Things tend to remain concealed behind closed doors.”

He further explains his views on contemporary marriages.

“In an urban world, the monotony creeps into married life after being together for years no matter how much they might love each other. I think we need to wake up and give equal importance to both aspects of life.”

Anand echoes the concerns of most Indian authors when he says, “My previous book was launched by Mahesh Bhatt, it did not exactly become a national bestseller. I figured out that every month there are four to five new authors. The time that an average reader can devote to a book is limited.”

He has still retained his childhood love for Archie comics. “My style is not inspired by any author,” he explains, “It is the passion that drives me.”
