Isha Koppikhar wants to be an ‘item’

Isha justifies why she wouldn’t mind the ‘item girl’ tag.

Isha Koppikhar wants to be an ‘item’

There are some actresses who would never want to do an item song and there are actresses who are looking for it. Actor Isha Koppikhar says that she would like to do an item song again after her long-forgotten hit number Khallas in a Ram Gopal Varma film.

The actor who got some critical acclaim with her last film called Shabri, is now looking for an item number other than hunting for a role where she can show her acting skills. But doesn’t it sound contradictory? Well, according to Isha, it doesn’t.

“Item numbers are real fun to do. They also play an integral part in pulling the audiences to the theatres. Initially we had item girls, while actresses preferred to stay away from these numbers. The situation now seems to have changed. We see A-list actors doing some really hot item songs and they are all successful. Forget actresses, we even saw Aamir Khan turning into item boy for Delhi Belly. The change is healthy and we are actually coming to a point where the first thing the audience sees about the film is the item song in it, if any,” says Isha.

The actress feels that item songs aren’t easy to perform on and require hard work and a lot of dancing talent. “Every item song is usually the crowd-puller song. The effort and expectations on the performer are therefore even higher,” she adds.

Quiz her about her being open to such numbers and the actress replies, “Dancing is my passion, I have always enjoyed dancing in my movies. I want to strike a balance between serious cinema and doing stuff that I enjoy doing. I thoroughly enjoyed doing Khallas and Ishq Samundar and I’m absolutely open to doing more of such songs,” she adds.
