Is Rani Mukerji ready to tie the knot?

When the actress, who’s been linked to filmmaker Aditya Chopra, was asked about the wedding rumours, this is how she skirted it.

Is Rani Mukerji ready to tie the knot?

Are you ready to tie the knot? — A question that had actor Rani Mukerji pause for a moment at the preview event of her upcoming film. Looking resplendent, dressed as a Maharashtrian bride that she plays in Aiyyaa, had everyone abuzz about the actor’s own marriage, which has been a matter of speculation since last year.

It’s been rumoured that Rani is all set to tie the knot with filmmaker Aditya Chopra, which was further fuelled when the elusive couple was spotted at the airport few months ago —  apparently returning from a holiday.

The actor, initially taken aback by the question posed to her, quipped, “Nobody knows the future. But for now, I am happy to play roles of a girl eager to marry.”

When it comes to the work front, Rani continues her trait of playing diametrically opposite roles, currently she’s doing that with an intense film like Talaash, vis-a-vis a feel-good film like Aiyyaa. “I wanted to have some masti after doing serious roles in No One Killed Jessica and Talaash, so I said yes to Aiyyaa. My fans will get to see two very different Ranis on screen,” she says.

Talking about her chemistry with the Southern superstar, Prithviraj Sukumaran, who’s making a debut in Hindi films with  Aiyyaa, Rani gushes, “Prithviraj is so handsome, he is the heroine of the film. He has been fully exploited by the director as he has had to strip and go bare-chested. Usually in Hindi films, the heroine has to look hot. But jokes aside, he has a magnetic screen presence.”

Asked about her experience of working in a film co-produced by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, she says, “People usually associate Kashyap with dark and hard-hitting films, and I was no different. I made it clear that I wanted to do only happy  films, and he said that the film was just my kind.  I was excited to bring out his fun side which I am well acquainted with.”

Being a Bengali, was it easy for Rani to slip into the role of a Marathi girl?  “Yes, I am a Mumbaikar at the end of it all.  But I had to work on getting the accent right as I tend to slip into Bangla quite often,”  she says.
