Indian version of reality show 'X Factor' launched

Sony Entertainment Television today announced the launch of the Indian version of the singing reality show 'X Factor'.

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and playback singers Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal will judge the show.

"I don't know how to define X-factor. I feel they are those who can show their inner talent, has confidence and passion, can explore new things and fight failure. Amitabh Bachchan has X-factor, now how do I define his X-factor," Bhansali said.

"My consent to be a judge of 'X Factor' is proof enough of my faith in the format, teams involved and the Channel. Music in India has gone beyond the boundaries of film music. So for all those singers, bands and musicians who are trying to give music a new expression the show will give them a platform to showcase their talent," Nigam said.

The singing talent show, to be hosted by singer-actor Aditya Narayan, has been adapted from international show 'The X Factor'.

"The contestants not only have to audition before judges but in front of a live audience. The concert-like atmosphere will bring new dimension to their performances. It gives them an opportunity to prove they have the whole package - vocal ability, charisma and stage presence," Shreya said.

The auditions will be aired all the days of the week between May 29 till June 4 at 9pm, and the galas will start from June 10 with top 12 finalists, every Friday and Saturday at 9 pm.

The channel has partnered with international company Fremantle Media, the license holders of the format, for the programme.

"We are confident that the show will find India's most talented performers," Fremantle Media India managing director S K Raj Barua said.
